CREATING YOUR OWN WEB PAGES
Good Morning!
Last week we talked about New Year's resolutions and
the challenge to conquer them in the upcoming year. We
spoke about grand visions and good intentions for our
businesses but when it comes down to the actual work we
procrastinate and make excuses.
This week we'll be talking about creating your own web
page.
But before I jump into the details, let me say this...
If you're like most small business owners, you want to
build a business that doesn't rely heavily on outside
marketing efforts. You want to maximize referrals and
repeat business so that you don't have to spend your
time chasing down leads and convincing others that they
should do business with you.
Frankly, I talk to businesses every day who dream of
having an endless supply of customers that provides them
with lots of repeat business. But when I ask them what
they're doing to make that dream a reality, too often
they answer with something like: "Well, Alan, the longer
I'm in business, the more customers I work with and the
more repeat business and referrals I'll get. And
besides, I'm really busy right now."
When I hear that, I think to myself, "Uh-oh!!!"
Which is why I am writing to you. Because this very
passive mindset can cost you a lot of money over the
course of a business! You see, as the months go by, your
past customers just aren't thinking about you anymore.
In fact, no matter how great your service was, your last
customers are busy living their lives. Apart from the
occasional referral, they probably won't remember you
tomorrow. That's the cold, hard truth. Your marketing
strategy must be persistent and on-going.

marketing requires effort |

Like most small businesses who have a website, perhaps you've
realised that:
- Websites should make money (having a website
doesn't automatically mean extra business).
- Making Search Engines (particularly Google) work
for your site may be beyond your expertise.
- Maintaining fresh website content is as
essential.
- Websites are an extension of your business - and
should work as hard as you do!

#3 CREATING YOUR OWN WEB PAGES
SUMMARY:
People who are new to building and
publishing a website invariably ask me "Where do I start?". I'm always
sympathetic to the question because a new user has a number of different
concepts that they need to be able to understand before they can
successfully publish a site.
In the attached article I will provide a basic overview of some of the
jargon and processes. Later we will discuss some of the web authoring
tools that are currently available for users.

Social Media Marketing - the next Gold Rush?
It's a wiki, wiki world out there on the net. Add the 'me, me, me'
of blogs and citizen reporters and it can seem newspapers are on the
way out".
Rachel Buchanan - The Age, August 2007

Can this be true? Do you know much about social media marketing?
"Blogs, "wikis", "podcasts", YouTube and FaceBook. - what do
they all mean? Surely they have nothing to do with my business?
Right? - WRONG!
Social marketing is here to stay. I have just come across an
amazing video on the subject, and I must admit I find the whole
concept scary (but
BE WARNED - it runs for over 50 minutes,
so sit down and grab a cup of coffee first!). This Report shows
you how to INSTANTLY reach an audience of millions... so judge
for yourself...
Online AND in Print - the future of Community News?
One of the major challenges facing
community newspapers and website developers is to coordinate and
maintain local news content in existing local newspapers and on
community websites.
VillageSoup is a new low-cost, web based hosting platform designed
to encourage community debate, allowing citizens to access and
comment on matters affecting their community - 24 hours-a-day.
